A Little Over a Year

It has been a little over a year since the last entry has been written. Much has changed. To be honest, I have deviated from my plan/desire to look for my own personal style. Distracted is the right word. But, I have crossed paths with this desire again, this time it is much stronger. There is a desire to acquire things that will last, things that can be passed down, cherished, and loved. Such a great feeling.

With this new desire, I quite saddened to no longer see my favourite blogs - search-for-style, antique-gold-sphere, fashionpariah, the-shades-of-black.. I wish they would resurrect their blogs someday as inspirations to us they have left behind, well, just the blogging world. But those blogs still serve as inspirations, even just through memory.

One such blog that has excited me is deadfleurette. I am looking forward to her future posts while I am devouring her current ones.

On another note, I have been inspired to assess my current style in the form of bits about my style. Some such bits are as follows.
1 I cannot be without a men's watch. I feel naked without a watch on my left wrist. These days I prefer the watch to sit beside a gold/silver bracelet given to me by my father during one of our trips abroad. I leave the other wrist naked.

2 I have an affinity for pearl earrings. Like the men's watch, it is another accessory I cannot leave home without. Although I have a couple, actually they all look similar only varying in shade, I currently have an affinity for this almost pink/peach shade one.

3 I feel best when I am in a skirt or dress. Unfortunately, I dress in jeans for work as the environment demands. But all the other instances, I wear a skirt or dress. My legs are not my best asses (actually I am going for my wrist and collarbone), but there is something about a skirt that hits right above the knee that feels very feminine. Together with the men's watch, I am very pleased.

4 Usually when I wear a skirt, a black top is what I use.

5 I have so many heeled shoes (platforms even), but I am almost always in flats or wedges in special occasions. It is very frustrating to not be able to utilise what I have purchased. This is where my quest has been enlivened. Money spent on those shoes could have been utilised to purchase several investment pieces. Very frustrating indeed. But I hope this shall change.

Those are just some I can come up with atm. Would like to post a couple of items I should focus on saving up for.
1 trousers for work preferrably in black and loose on the upper part and a bit skinny on the lower leg
2 investment bag. I already have something in mind but I will need to evaluate.
3 cartier/rolex watch
4 flimsy white as well as black top
5 flimsy white as well as black button down
6 jewelery. Currently have a penchant for gold.

I guess that sums my current state of style being. Nowhere near quest I have begun a year back, but it is a hope to see that I can start all over again. In the meantime the closets should be purged and key items should be selected.

On the other hand, I don't yet have the time to edit my current wish list. Maybe some other time.

Hiatus

My style journey has taken the back seat while I am focusing on my career.

Besides loving fashion and all it's glamorous glory, I also find it valuable that I should have a great, successful (financial and career-wise) future ahead of me. After all, I am working very hard to be able to afford all these beautiful pieces of clothing and accessories (and hopefully great investments, homes, and cars in the future, not to mention passive income!). I just celebrated my birthday last 8/29 and had so many realizations. So for now, I might not be able to regularly update. I know I promised more updates and I had to throw this.. Fashion and the quest for my style will always be my first love, but I also want to be financially free.. I hope you understand and bear with me. Wish me luck!

As I have mentioned, I have been trying to look for my own style - something I feel suits my personality well and at the same time, a look that is comfortable. It's not surprising but I acquired mostly black pieces. What surprised me is that I was less impulsive with my purchases, in other words more safe with my choices. Maybe because this style is new to me and I prefer not to waste precious time and money with items I am not happy with. The first one is black and white flat sandals with a strap closing at the back. I had already worn them this weekend and although I am happy with the comfort level flats bring (as well as the uniqueness of the particular pair), the laces are a pain and made me plaster bandages at the back of my feet. That is so frustrating. Still, I will try to get the most wear out of them.

Inspired by Road to Style, i bought a similar pair of sandals she had (I hope you don't mind ;) ). She has a better quality photo in one of her posts, in fact she has two pairs of this. I am madly in love with the ruffle design, but have yet to describe the comfort level.
After much looking, I found open toe boots some time ago, but I haven't worn them yet. The fabric (suede) used is very soft but I hope I last long in them as they are heels. I am not to sure if I have mentioned this but I am trying to stay away from purchasing heels as much as I can as I do not get the most use out of them. Most of the time I end up changing into flats so I have decided to finally invest in the comfort of flat shoes, sandals, and wedge shoes.

Side view of bootsMy favourite purchase this month is this Philip Lim black trench. The photo truly does not give it justice. Blame my horrible phone camera. I fell in love with it. Hope I get to maximise its wear while the rainy season is at its peak.

Purchased this silk Club Monaco top awhile back and have already worn it. The neck is too low so I opt to wear a bandeau or a think tank underneath. It's a nice shade of dark grey and the fabric is amazing to touch. The bubble hem sleeves add a nice touch.
I am really excited to wear this knit black Vanessa Bruno dress. I might wear this sometime soon, but of course it has to be ironed first or something..
This will become one of my staples and will get so much wear as I am fond of flimsy long sleeves and shapeless tops. In a few weeks/months time this will be so overused and I like that thought.
I feel happy with my purchases as there had been so much thought put into them. I hadn't mentioned and included in this post but I also bought 2 pieces of a black tank top in a thin fabric, 1 black tank top, and 1 white tank top which are basic necessities in my wardrobe. I realized that if I found a really nice bargain I will buy multiples as I have a tendency to wear them so much. I cannot wait to wear these items in my next couple of posts. On another note, I am a bit preoccupied at the moment so posting will become less frequent. I am still reading all your nice comments. Thank you so much for reading my blog.;)

Grey Matter

The weather has been on extreme ends lately - either it is boiling hot or it is stormy and all in one day. In a way this has immensely affected the way I wear clothing lately. I should be able to adapt to these changes as I do not want to suffer in heat or shiver when it is so cold. In a more recent situation, I resolved this by wearing something thin, in this case a thin grey dress from a french brand and leggings. I also brought with me a wrap/shawl as well as a grey motorcycle jacket in case it begins to get cold.

Oh, I am just about done with my oathtaking. I shall post outfit of said event some time soon.

Military Jacket + Nude Shoes

This is probably the dirtiest my mirror has been as this was also the time I was studying for the aforementioned exam (check in previous posts). My excuse being I was always in a rush for work then off to hours of studying, coming home only in the wee hours of the morning and getting very little sleep. But then again, I am not complaining because the hard work paid off - I passed.;)

I wear a Ciel Reiv military jacket (extra thick, great for the cool weather) and Macy's shoes to study. The jacket is not the best thing to wear for a long day as the fabric is stiff and limits movements. Good thing I brought a hoodie jacket as a fallback as it was raining heavily back then. I ended up changing into that as well as sandals. Well, so much for personal style in this instance. During critical times as I sometimes refer to instances/events in my life, comfort is key to dressing up. I just could not bear to don something I cannot move in the entire day as I not only had to read (I am now talking about the study hours, after I am off at work), I also had to compute and scour through pages or jump from one page or book to another. A clothing that limits my movements in a way impairs me to do what I have to do. I guess that is the limitation that clothing offers. In this case, I was able to show my personal style only for a short period of time as I cannot perform simple tasks. It was not easy to navigate as I had difficulty in arm movements. This is a case of going back to basics, sadly, it did not reflect my personal style. Now, I am in search for something for comfortable. Personal, but comfortable, that is now what I am looking for.

Nightgown + Fur = Vintage Film Lady

One of my favorite things to do is play dress up especially in cold weather. As I am just lounging at home sipping a sweet cup of hot chocolate, I like to wear my favorite things that do not get the wear they deserve as the weather or the occasion does not permit. I am wearing my vintage peach night gown that is totally flimsy so I wore another layer of slip underneath from the more modern store Topshop, vintage fur coat (possibly faux as this was just given to me as a present). When I took the photo I wore the Prada satin jewel-encrusted shoes as opposed to going barefoot which I am actually as there is no need to wear shoes, but for the sake of the look I am aiming for, the shoes are great with the look.
There are very rare instances when I get to wear fur. I wish there were more occasions as well as the weather being cooperative. Alas, this may well be just a dream so I wear my fur and thick coats in the comfort of my home - they are very reliable especially in instances when it is extremely cold or when I have a fever or in this instance, I am playing dress up. I have about more than a dozen coats add to that several dozens of jackets and cover ups. It is quite impractical to have acquired that much, but I love them so much and try my very best to get the most wear from them. I am thankful for cold weather as I get to wear them outside and play with them while the temperature permits. Another shot of the night gown with the shoes. The fabric is just so silky, I can wear this all the nights in my life. But I only have two, the other in black. The fabric is so soft and it is prone to slight tears, I am very careful not to scratch it as I am intent on keeping it forever.

Scandinavian Wishes

For a while I have had a slight obsession with scandinavian homes. There is something appealing about the white bricks contrasted with light colored wood accents, a certain coldness to the look that is admirable. When it is unbelievably warm in my place, I have dreams of cooler locations and scandinavia. It is currently raining and windy so I opted for something inspired by my dreams. I wore a vintage grandpa cardigan that is really meant for a grandpa somewhere in the european regions in the 1950s (this is also an appropriate look/clothing right now). I paired it with a flimsy black tank and an oversize thin grey knit tank and the most comfortable oxfords there is. It is not visible, but the jeans I am wearing in the photo has small paint splatters from where I used to work before.

The grandpa grey cardigan, I imagine a sweet old european man in his 80s wearing this. But the sweater is brand new but it is vintage brand new. When I got outside, the heavy rain and wind was too much so I threw on a huge olive green hoodie I found lying at a chair at home. Everyone at home is very nice as they allow borrowing of clothing and items as they know they will be well-taken care of. I have used several of my mother, father, and brother's items. Not so long ago, my brother gave me his beat up jeans and they ended up becoming boyfriend jeans on me. The fit was great and the jeans had its own wear and tear history which is just lovely (a bit on the scruffy side with slight rips as wells as torn hems from walking on stones perhaps). I got looks of amusement/bewilderment as the boyfriend jeans craze was just coming out at the time. I found out that men's jeans are not comfortable as they are not the least bit stretch and I had to wear a leather belt to keep it from falling as I found out men had no waists and curves so belts are necessary. Or maybe that was just those particular pair of jeans.

I love the rustic, almost ancient look of the shoes. They seem a bit tattered but they are imperfectly perfect and that is what I love about them.

I am off to my cozy corner to drink hot chocolate with small marshmallows on top.

Weekend Wear

The exam is over and now I wait for the nerve-wracking news as to whether I passed or...Let's not dwell on the negative side. Focus on clothes as this is more positive and fun. I studied days and nights (up to 14 hours of study in a day which I feel is just a lot) for that one exam and I feel I deserve to have peace and a bit of fun now that it is over. Oh well.. Going back to my normal writing and outfit-chronicling habits.

On weekends that I do get to go out, I prefer wearing something more laid-back, casual, but at the same time flattering as opposed to my work outfits which consist mostly of a modest covered up self. Weekends are the time I get to don shorter hemlines or sleeveless tops, in this case the former. While I would never dream of wearing this short dress to work, actually I do have but I wore them with leggings, I wish I can wear outfits as airy as this one as the weather is slowly dropping to extremely hot standards. Those platform wedges are surprisingly v. comfortable and I wore them for 12 hours that day from dropping by at work (just a quick stop to check progress in the morning) to window shopping, lunch, snacks, etc. then eventually dinner out with my family.I like to pair most of my outfits with a men's watch and vintage leather and gold design belt.

As some of you may have noticed men's watches are my trademark. It is the one thing that I may never be able to let go even if I am dressed up and that may well be even until I grow old and grey (hopefully chic). I dropped by one shopping stop and just grabbed so many items of clothing (which are of course already well-thought out as I returned the pieces that would not be getting any wear and focused on uniform clothing) and at the counter, the SA and I had a quick chit chat where she was quick to point out that I have a penchant for black. Without realizing, all the clothes (dresses, jacket, coat, oversize tank) came in black. I guess my black uniform is sticking to me after all.

Out of the Blue + My Kind of Street Style Inspiration

I love the color of this vintage top (I am not certain as to what color this is - blue or violet: it seems like both in person, very dual-personality). There is something about (non-metallic) jewel tones that brightens the aura of the wearer. This top actually has a slit on the sleeves that has a layer of transparent fabric in the same shade -a very nice detail that I appreciate.I paired it with leggings bought from a ballet store and Martine Sitbone 4" pumps - those shoes are definitely not for long walks, but more for a day of just sitting at the work desk.

For the lack of real-style (we are being bombarded by Jak&Jil, Garance, etc. that always see those photos and I need something new and fresh and realistic), I have turned to the editors of Lucky magazine. Yes, they are editors of a magazine who are surrounded by stylists, but they have real bodies, a sort of personal knack when it comes to dressing (after all they are inspired everyday), and it's Lucky magazine, a realistic and imperfect magazine - something I need at the moment. All these are outfits that I would wear every single day of course that is considering the weather (nothing extremely hot or freezing) and the occasion like heading off to work or just chitchating at a cafe with girlfriends. Also, that is with the exception that there is nothing too short, skimpy, or too revealing moreso in the leg area. This I have vowed to myself already. I may occasionally break this but rules are made to be broken I suppose (to add to that, I may break it a little but not to the point of making a fool out of myself). But for everyday I would prefer something that is professional-looking and still has a personal touch, say big trousers one day and plain dress with red lipstick on another occasion.

Little by little, I am finding that I tend more towards black and fabrics that have sheer sleeves, how I love those flimsy black sleeves. In a way it shows skin, yet it's just a hint of skin. Then I can focus on another dark bottom like dark denim (which I am obsessed with as of the moment) or black skintight skirts. I complement these with a simple bag and almost always, and preferably always, beautiful heeled shoes. You can say that I am more of a shoe person.

Silk, Dots, and Jewels

I didn't realize that I wasn't able to capture a clear photo of this one for the whole body shot unfortunately. The top is a flimsy Diane von Furstenberg with silk ribbon ties that I wore with black denims and Prada jewel-encrusted satin pumps. I love how this is great for warm weather which I have to deal with on a daily basis lately. Airy fabrics like this top lessen the torture of mild heat suffocation..if you know what I mean.

While people in cool places are dreaming of summer, I, on the other hand, am dreaming of cool weather where I can finally don the jackets I have acquired including some very nice military jackets as well as motorcycle jackets. I must take their photos some time to inspire me when cooler weather finally arrives or when I do have the chance to travel to a cooler place. Good thing I have stocked on airy fabric tops prior to summer season's arrival, but then again when it just gets too hot, I imagine myself going to work donning a mummu which is just the airiest fabric there is, I believe. Some fabrics, denim jeans included are really not appropriate for summer. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to purchase some work-appropriate bottoms such as cropped trousers or knee-length skirts. These shall be included on my to-find list.

Floral Burst + Skorting the Issue

More than a month has past since I had written. Time flies by so quickly I did not even have a chance to realize it. My apologies for having been absent for quite a while. I had been caught up with incidents at work which led me to have greater workload than before and above that, I have been studying as I would so much like to get a job title that which may lead me to be a consultant in (one of my fields of work) in just a couple of years. These have led me to become less uninspired as of late due to having so much to juggle at a time (work + school + study time) and to top it all off, the weather is extremely warm and not all establishments and places I go to are well-ventilated. I was only able to photograph some outfits during the course of the month during spurts of fashion creativity.

On another occasion, I wore this Anna Sui dress to a lunch date with my boyfriend and his family. I felt this is appropriate yet somehow, not too me? I like this dress for some instances, but I would not exactly wear this on a daily basis. I feel it is a bit too girly for me.

I felt a bit creative today. A bit unsure if the outfit was a success though. I received one puzzled look today which may probably be due to the high waist skort (shorts that looks like a skirt) I sported. I paired it with a basic black top, vintage lace cover up, vintage heart metal belt, and Vanessa Bruno silver pumps. Another detail I added is the trinket bracelet. I am not too sure if this outfit worked, but oh well, at least that is one outfit I tried already.

It is a bit disappointing that I have deviated from my black dress code that I have imposed on myself, but then again, I only bought three black dresses (plus about the three that already exist in my closet) and for a while it was fun but eventually it got a bit boring imo as it no longer required any train of thought. As we all know dresses are just one piece. Yes, we can change our accessories, shoes, and bags, but at the end of the day, it is just one piece that I styled and it got a bit redundant. I no longer felt creative which is the very purpose of my journey to look for my personal style. It wasn't me to wear a uniform on a daily basis. I felt that something was lacking so hear I am again, maybe I prefer to be the free spirit who has different styles? I do not know yet, but I have been seeing some preferences in my outfits such as tough shoes which has made me fall madly in love with the gladiator shoes style as well as platforms. I will be showing some outfits I have worn in the next couple of days as I have adjusted a bit to this new schedule so you will be seeing some of my posts again. As for the lbds, I will still wear them yes, but I need an outlet for my fashion energy after consecutive days of not having to pair and style/layer anything.

Black, Grey, and a Pop of Blue

Besides finding my personal style, which I have gladly already began to look for, one of my goals is to acquire luxury cars in the near future. Not that I can afford it atm, but a girl can dream. I was in a rush this morning as we had to meet with a client, I know I have been used to dressing up informally, in jeans even to meet up with clients, but I would like to change that. Today, I wasn't able to exercise my professional look as I was in a hurry not to be late. Honestly, my only concern about what I wore were my shoes. I looked like I was to lazy to wear a pair of decent looking heels, but in all honesty, my feet were really aching and they're actually a bit swollen-looking. It's a bit horrifying to display them, but these sandals are the closest thing to comfort for my dead-tired feet.

So while I was away, I have been leaning towards grey and black as well as just black shoes. Several unusual events happened while I was on leave from blogging. First, around mid-March my toe hurt so for more than a week I had been confined to wearing flats which eventually developed to soft mid heels. This little toe dilemma took a toll on my holy week vacation as I had limited walking abilities. Walking for a few minutes would worsen the situation much more walk around for hours. So I had to make do with short walking stints, but this did not stop me from scratching something off my to-do list that is: biking! The last time I stepped on a bike was a decade ago so I realized my biking skills need more improvement but I am so happy that I am still able to bike even though it is embarassingly wobbly. My toe is a lot better now, but I still can't wear anything that may strain it ie. beautiful platform shoes.

My second dilemma involves an allergy attack which happened last Saturday. I haphazardly self-medicated myself prior to a waxing appointment. So by the end of the treatment, I was feeling extremely sick and realized that I triggered my allergies causing me to have a hard time breathing as well as having a swollen face and hands. It was terrifying as I had to drive myself and my friend to the hospital with me taking slow deep breaths amidst feeling dizzy. I had to remain calm as I knew that it was an emergency situation as I could just faint any moment if I could no longer breathe. It was the longest 30-minute drive of my life.
April 19
Trying to channel French chic, but I think I failed. Later on, I did away with the denim cover up and belt and was left with a black jersey dress as well as this new fringe back I got from travel.

I am liking how this fringe bag can take a look from hippie to artsy to quirky. It is amazing what a bag can do to a look. It is the same with shoes, I believe.

April 15

I wore the dress again this time with a cowl style neck. I am very pleased that I bought this dress as I do love to tweak the neck area as it is a versatile piece. Hopefully, I can find more of these styles later on as this personal style journey progresses. That is, versatile black dresses which I prefer to be not-so-little so that I seem more professional in them. I paired the dress this time with comfortable black lace ups (actually faux lace ups as they are just strapped on the side) as well as a new black oversize watch and oversize ring I got from travel. The pearl bracelet from what I recall, I purchased from a beach stall from two years back.

Another grey and black outfit I know but I have fallen for a light grey shade at the time so I just had to give in this small obsession.
March 26
This sweater has a menswear appeal to it and I like how there are delicate buttons on the shoulder to offset the manly style. I paired them with city shorts that day then later on when I wore it again during vacation (I have been rotating pieces more often these days) with dark jeans. The shoes I feel add a nice touch to the look instead of wearing loafers, brogues or flats.

I have another thin motorcycle jacket that I am loving atm. They are great for warm weather.

I am liking my progress in this personal style journey, yet there are days when I feel that I have not gotten the "look" right as in the case of the french chic attempt. But then again, at least I have tried the look instead of just let it linger in my head. Now, I can move on to other looks. My only concern is I repeat pieces way too fast that it is too obvious. Sometimes it seems as if I am just repeating items over and over again in a span of two weeks and it looks as if I have no other clothes to wear. But I am just so comfortable with these pieces. Now, my search is on to find the perfect summer pieces as well as that bag... Although atm, I must also focus on my beach getaway this weekend where most of my funding has gone to. I cannot wait as this is a break that my system needs for a long while now.

Personal Uniform

So, it had been days since my last post. Finally, I have found and decided on my "personal uniform". Greatly influenced by this men's blog I have stumbled upon. I am happy to have found a uniform that is quite basic, comfortable, and fits my lifestyle well. I say that I have decided because, it is new for me. There is a chance that I have found this uniform and yet, decide that I would not like to incorporate it in my life as my previous one does the job, but I cannot exactly say it's done well. My current one still needs adjustment. There have still been days wherin I deviated from this uniform, after all it is self-imposed and much like others reactions, I am surprised at this "personal uniform" decision. I will try this for a while, what you can call an experiment. It is after all, good to experiment in order to achieve personal style. So I have decided to make the black dress my uniform. I dare not say little because after all I'm still going to work and I feel 'little' which may mean short or sexy is not the appropriate term. The image I want is to be taken seriously. This is the uniform that I have chosen, something black, appropriate for work, even for doing simple errands. Excuse the dirty mirror. I picked a couple of black dresses even strappy ones wherein I can use a cover up such as a jacket or blazer whenever I feel the need. Actually, I prefer not to show my arms, I just feel it shows a bit more of a professional appeal. There is also the question of comfort. What I am wearing above is a bit snug and I feel it compromised my comfort in a way. I must do something about that, an alteration perhaps. Fortunately, the collar of this dress is changeable so that can be fixed with a few tweaks. The other black dresses I have, they are jersey so I have nothing to worry about in terms of the comfort level.

I picked up another ring, this time it is a fancy one that is, it has several stones. It is difficult to decipher the picture, but it has a big stone in the middle and has stones circling the center. It can seem a bit loud but next to my oversize ring (can be viewed in previous posts), it looks quaint is a bit more what I can say is demure.

I am enjoying this change and my journey to personal style very much. There had been days wherein it has been a challenge but I am getting there. Also, this thought came to me just now. I just realized that it is a bit odd that I created a personal uniform consisting of black in the summer time. It isn't exactly an echo to the economic climate, but more of a personal struggle - a bit of what I call a rebellion as I feel the need to be taken more seriously.

(trying Acne + The Kooples inspiration)

Ahh..my initial reaction (to these questions) was I became disheartened because it made me re-evaluate my reason for looking for my personal style. When I first made this blog, I just wanted a few things - to wear black often, look as chic as french women, and have fun in the process. It is very shallow, but it was fun because it was a simple thought and idea. Then along the way, I am finding out little by little that is not as easy as I thought because there are so many pieces already existing in my closet that I have to get rid of, but I do not have the heart to let them go because I am in love with so many of these pieces. That was what happened to my previous post. I got confused with this quest to find my personal style because as I wanted to look french chic, deep inside, I am already comfortable with some items in my closet, only I found some of my stylings sloppy and well, not chic.

Eventually, as these questions processed in my mind, the more I want to find my style because in a way, I am also looking for myself. For years I have strived (note on the word strive) to dress up in a way that reflects me and there have been so many instances where I failed and miserably at that as I tend to look trendy when I just follow styles instead of follow my instinct.

As I am in the process of looking for my personal style, I would browse through different magazines and the more I would get confused because there are so many different styles that look so fun, some would be easy to try, and yet, I could not find myself in these stylings. They are just styles that look nice on paper but don't reflect me. Then with these questions posed at me I realized that I have no definite style. I am saddened and yet I'm still hopeful as I don't want to give up on this quest as much as I don't want to give up hope on myself. I am looking for myself after all. These are not just articles of clothing and pieces of jewelry and pairs of shoes; these are reflections of who I am. What I look like on the outside is how people will judge me especially on their first time to see or meet me. It is natural for people to judge on appearances so in a way it's like a book being judged by a cover (Ahh, how true now this quote applies with this realization and quest!).

I would like people to perceive me as a woman who is confident in her own skin, not slutty. I would like people to see me as professional, but with just a hint of casual (as my lifestyle does not require suits and I can get away with jeans on a daily basis in my wardrobe). With these in mind I already tried by beginning to give a look that is gearing towards professional so I have said goodbye to flip flops outside my home. Also, I am wary of showing too much skin even when I am going out on evenings, even when it is warm outside I do not have a problem with being covered up. I have preferred to bring a cover up in a form of a sweater, jacket, cardigan especially on evenings as I do not like to be perceived as too revealing.

Search for Chic also adviced me as to why I bought those brown boots in my previous post when I wanted the black pair and that would just bother me over time. It is as if she took the words out of my mouth. Yes, I am still yearning for those boots in black as it's what I initially wanted. Now, I am still on a hunt for it, but I haven't seen those boots around just yet as I bought my brown ones about five years ago..

I realized I am actually not sick of my wardrobe and I am liking many pieces that's already in it even. And now I understand that yes, I would like my permanent style to be comfortable, but at the same time for it to reflect who I really am. In a way, I have to try to embrace that in the process I will realize that I cannot always get away with french chic because I am crazy over patterns and color (maybe I will try left bank chic that is more artsy rather than tending towards black?), as well as have a small penchant for vintage (and/or vintage style).

It really is very difficult..In fact, more difficult that what I initially thought. With these realizations again I have to do some more re-evaluating and just as she (Search for Chic) has adviced me, I will make a list of the things that I truly want and not stop until they are perfect. This will take some time as making a list of things takes a lot of thinking and the more I rush myself, the more I will end up with things that may have just been pushed by media and the fashion industry to me for instance those dictated classics.. But in this quest and list, definitely ones on top of my list will be black flats. That is something classic and something that I will always be wanting and have always wanted in my list,in other words a timeless item. But then again, that's just my opinion.

Cheating

Honestly, I will have to admit that it is a bit difficult to stick to doing an all-black ensemble everyday as well as doing french chic style everyday (which is the main purpose of my blog after all). First of all, my black items are very limited. I have a generous helping of black dresses, but for everyday, I must say they can seem a bit too frilly - even when yes, they are black. For years, I have been used to a mode of dressing where in there are masculine injections to my outfits. This means that I have an abundant supply of oversize button downs which look like hand-me-downs from the men in my life. For instance today, I have resorted to wearing a pyjama-like green top from Vivienne Westwood, black tank from the men's section, and paired them with lace ups (I wanted them in black, but they were sold out). I cannot help but to stick to what I am comfortable in and this is what I have been wearing for years. I feel a bit guilty about it as this is admittedly my daily uniform (sans the stilettos, I'm usually in ratty white sneakers).This makes me wonder now, should I pursue my style quest for french chic (black outfits, nonchalant attitude, Isabel Marant style, etc.) or should I stick to what is in my closet and what I am comfortable in? Looking at my outfit today, I am confused. I felt so comfortable today in my own skin and I am okay with my look but of course not totally happy unlike when I am doing or wearing something chic.

On a lighter note, I have found some nice alternative summer tops in my closet for the meantime. There's an abundant array of flimsy - colorful Tsumori Chisato tops (I have a penchant for the nice prints so I collected a few), a vintage Chloe lace top, and several nice tops perfect for summer that are brandless and I must re-surface them. I photographed the black vintage Chloe, but of course with the camera settings, the top looks indecipherable. I included a vintage top that I would like to get more wear out of as well as a pleated tie front skirt that I find french gamine.
These seem perfect with some short khaki bottoms and stringy black flats just to offset the lace with a preppy vibe. Or, I can always stick to denims if I need to be more covered up in the daytime. I would like them with my oversize rings as they seem goth when paired. I just like how when you use different accessories, you achieve a different vibe.
Somehow I am still very attracted to prints. Pucci and Missoni are favourites. I regret selling several Missoni cover ups because I thought I would never use them. I am now only left with one piece which I get so much wear out of that again it's becoming a bit too familiar. At one point, I used them with my chain handle bag and it rendered several snags on the knits to my dismay.. Also, as I noticed with prints, they are easy to recall unlike with neutrals of black, flesh, navy. That is also the reason why I find prints difficult to rotate because there must be a significant period of time before you wear them.For a while I have forgotten that my friend borrowed this skirt. She returned it to me to my surprise because I could no longer recall them. I told her she could have them as I do not have an occasion to wear them (I have never worn them yet) to which she declined for the same reason. And, I am glad she did. I would like to wear the skirt with a striped top and some casual white sneakers and quilted bag or maybe a round neck black top with my flesh boots (similar to The Kooples pair).

I am excited for this small summer wardrobe. At the very least, this is the start of my summer outfit capsule. I am inspired again so maybe that answers my question in the beginning of this post. Of course, I still lack so many pieces - the perfect shorts, woven sandals, possibly a straw hat for the beach? (but this is a bit unnecessary really), as well as bottoms for summer. Do you have any suggestions for bottoms that are efficient for the summer? Denim cut offs are too casual for the daytime they may be inappropriate no matter how fun they seem to be..

Isabel Marant + The Kooples - Almost There

Slowly I am discovering which items fit me better. There are many factors that I consider such as the weather, occasion, mood, style, etc. This time I did it again, I reached for items in my closet that I would not have considered before (my search for my personal style). The weather is good so I went with a filmy top that is a nod to Isabel Marant, a little bit oversize for me but nevertheless it is airy. I like the pattern that is almost exotic, but when you look closely it's almost childlike.
I am so happy that I discovered these boots again. They are slightly similar to The Kooples suede beige boot that I would like to have. But since I have this, this will do and are perfect. I like the height of the heel as it is very comfortable and I can walk the entire day in these boots. Unfortunately, these are from a long time ago so I better not wear them in the rain because it will be difficult for me to find another pair if I ruin this.
This is a close up of the top and the other details such as the beaded bag. I used my oversize ring again and used a single silver bracelet which actually comes in a stack but I learned that I liked to have a single piece on my wrist.

I am glad that I had kept some items in my wardrobe and that I can look back to them. It's nice to know that in the past I had made some good choices that I have carried on to become classic and timeless pieces in my closet. I will be using this top and the pair of boots more often so as to get more wear out of them. I would also like to clarify that in the sense of the term classic it means articles of clothing that are timeless in that you reach for them always in your wardrobe and not at all the dictated classic (button down white shirt, trench coat, investment bag, little black dress, etc.).

Personal Jewelry

Many many thanks to H of Candid Cool and Prêt à Porter Prostitute for featuring me as the Site of the Moment. It's an honour as I always look forward to seeing your current featured site which often become my personal favourites.

I had been loking for accessories to complement my new style direction. Black and silver are my current preferred colors for jewelry, but I still enjoy mixing gold and silver together just for the contrast and because I like to break rules, even though it is as little as clashing colors. For silver and gold jewelry, I would like it to be discreet and nothing too bright. I would like it to portray quiet elegance at this point. Not always, but I am working on it.
Luckily, I found a bangle that mixes the three beautiful shades. The shot is a bit blurry, but you can see details of a rope-like silver chord with a mix of gold (a bit tarnished in style), silver, and black stones on the ends. I like that it does not have a clasp and that I wouldn't have to close it each time I wear it. This, I believe lessens the wear and tear (knowing that I would for it to last a very long time). Instead I just slip it into my wrist. You also wouldn't believe how you can slip your wrist into such small space. It amazes me even.
This ring I found by accident and it was pleasant. I'm glad I bought it to add to everyday wear. It's unbelievably huge than I am used to, but being that I will be wearing it on a daily basis it will only take a matter of time before it would feel like second skin to me.I know these two pieces would perfectly fit into my wardrobe. I also recently bought several black and grey tops in the last couple of weeks. These two would get so much wear and I am excited with the journey even if I'm just taking small steps. I try not to rush myself in my process to finding my personal style because I already know that it would be long and I would like to enjoy it. Little by little I am having a wardrobe that I like, something that I can call my own, and one that I would like to be permanent. These pieces add to my excitement. How do you pick jewelry for your wardrobe? Is it random or do you want them to fit each and every piece of your closet so it is well thought-out?

Defining Your Style

So I went out today for some errands. I would have loved to drop by Zara, Topshop, Mango, as well as check out Promod, but that date will have to be saved for another day. I wore a MiuMiu knitted cover up with adorable round button details. I wish I also bought this in black. I have had a liking for cover ups ever since I've decided to show less and less skin. I feel it is something worth investing on besides the basic tank tops which usually come in black or white. Oh, also, stripes have become a staple in my closet. Although atm I have a few in rotation so I have to look for new ones as my old ones are becoming a bit too familiar. I have this particular knit b&w long top that has become my safe outfit because it makes me feel secure. I am guilty of playing favourites in my wardrobe.Even though my real purpose is to find my own style, I cannot help to still take inspiration from the perspective of stylists (taken from style sites and e-tailers). But my justification for this is that it's the style direction that I would like to take. There just happen to be so many instances (even in the span of a day, would you believe?) that there is a possibility that I lose focus and even give in to a trend or two. Does this happen to you?
I would like my style to be classy (timeless, clean, and elegant), but at the same time I would like to incorporate a menswear-ish way to it in the form of denims, men's watches (I've worn a men's watch for as long as I can remember already, I remember falling in love with my dad's huge watches as a little girl), sleeved men's polo shirts, and men's accesories (studs, metal). I also do know that I would like to have a wardrobe that is predominantly black, white, beige, ivory, skintone, peach (more light pink), while shoes are black, and bags with blacks and also several that are of jewel-tone colors to complement the colors in my wardrobe. I am pretty sure that in the course of this new style direction, I will be changing some of my thoughts, maybe adding or subtracting new colors and styles to what I desire now. Is this also your process of finding your own style? Do you know exactly what you want your style direction to take?
So I was browsing Pixiemarket and I came across six looks that I would categorise into my current style direction. The first three looks are my inspiration for everyday outfits. I have fallen inlove with harem pants for the comfort and unsexy-quirkiness they provide so I would prefer to stock more of those. In a span of a couple of years, I have acquired a number of black vests and atm I have about 10 pieces. I am a bit obsessed with them.
These are my inspirations for weekend. I would prefer a more subdued metallic gold sandals though. What do you think?
After seeing this, I would like to have a hat like that. But I realized that it would defeat my purpose because that is not my style. Moreover, I will not wear the hat on a regular basis because I am afraid of having flat hair. It is very shallow, but it would be useless in my closet. The sequinned black top and shorts would fit perfectly in my closet. But these will be for later. What's most important right now is to build a foundation for my everyday outfits. How I dream of a closet where I can pull out items and mix and match them as if each were carefully thought out to be made for each other. I know this is a long process, but I have to start somewhere. So for now I can only dream of weekend outfits. Everyday outfits are the top priority.

Re-examining the Closet

Re-examining my wardrobe, I discover pieces that I used to feel were hopeless in a sense that, the day that I will wear them will never come and I will be stuck with them like dozens of hidden art in an attic. I realize that some have re-gained their potential and instead of getting rid of them I cling to these items because I feel they have a special place in my new wardrobe. For instance, I was browsing Luisaviaroma and come across the Balmain collection specifically this denim military jacket that so many have been raving about. I realize I have a somewhat simmilar shaped denim jacket that I got seasons ago (actually, years ago), but have never gone around to wearing it because I feel it has no place in my style. Now that I'm shifting my style and coming across this beautiful Balmani, my hope for wearing the jacket is revived. Even though it was bought long ago, it feels very now. Do you feel that with some items in your closet?

I know the jacket is nowhere near the Balmain, but the feel of my treasured jacket is a nod to the collection with it's odd, portruding shoulders and super skinny fit. I used to feel awkward about the shoulders for it emphasizes my already broad shoulders. Also, the super tight fit makes it a bit difficult to move around. But seeing the designer version and how lovely my jacket clings to my body exposing whatever top is underneath, in this occasion my semi-sheer grey knit top, I have fallen in love with it.
Looking back at the time when I purchased this jacket, I would never have thought that it would take years for me to appreciate it's natural beauty and quirkiness. It's difference sets it apart from other denim, as well as military jackets. I have come to appreciate the way it drapes on my body and how even though it is a standout piece, it blends with the rest of my outfit.
I am very glad that in the instance that I looked in the contents of my closet, I found a sort of treasure of course it is only in the form of a jacket, but still it feels like I've found a gem hidden amidst so many pieces that are already familiar. I would do this again as I am beginning to see hidden pieces in my closet. Do you also look into your closets for inspiration and find pieces you have forgotten but are in fact treasures?

Filling My Wardrobe

Going through my things last night I discovered an oversized white ring that I've had for a while. It was such a great find really especially since I am on a look out for an oversize ring. Luck was on my side last night.

I am juggling saving while evolving my style and I really need quite a number of pieces only as basics or as foundations for my new closet. At the same time I'm also ridding my closet of the pieces of clothing that I know no longer make me feel happy and inspired when I look at them and at the same time are just filling massive space in my closet. You know that we have to make way for the new items and in a way it is an "out with the old, in with the new" concept for me.

Leggings are just some of the stuff I have stocked on already, but I feel I still need more. I will stop myself from buying anymore leggings for now and instead focus on other categories that need more focus which are the tops and bottoms. Yes, leggings are also considered bottoms but I have more than enough already in rotation so I will move on to denims, pants, and trousers. What would you suggest would be good fabric for these pants and trousers? For pants, I would like something long with a bit of stretch as I found that the cropped ones make my leg appear shorter even when I am wearing heels. For trousers, preferably something thin and bordering on baggy suits my taste as I'd like to lean on the men's cut.
Oh, and talking about basics, has anyone tried the Hanes vcut white tops from the men's section? The SAs don't take me seriously and think I am buying for a man... Well, I am buying for myself. Next time, I shall march and demand they show me a filmy white perfect tshirt. Oh, do Hanes have filmy fabric? I would like some Kain ones and also the A Wang shirts, but let's be realistic...

Casual Weekend

This is the perfect outfit for me these days except of course I would prefer the blazer to be thinner than usual as you all know summer is fast approaching and it would be good to have a versatile cover up for the long hot season to come. I am on my way to stocking up on basics for instance, everyday shirts those long or sleeved ones, trousers and I prefer the men's style ones that are sprouting like mushrooms nowadays, two bags that would fit different needs my lifestyle (one would be for work everyday and the other would be for spicing up a blah outfit that consists of basics), a clutch (I am liking this flesh-tone, but I've been on the hunt for a blue jewel-tone to replace my tattered one...), and several flat shoes preferably gladiators as I'm not too keen on the fringed ones, we'll see...
I've seen another version of this white drapey dress somewhere and as I examined the fabric I realized that it's a filmy jersey which means slithers of skintone can possibly come through, something I wouldn't want to happen, ever. There is a black version as well but it doesn't quite match up to the white one as the latter is more beautiful because you can see the details very clearly. I'm thinking on getting the black but I still have no occasion to use it so I have no excuse really. Maybe I should make an excuse to buy it non?

It would be a casual day where I would wake up late to the smell of brewing coffee and spend my day strolling a park only to discover different independent designer shops as well as quaint shops hidden amongst the filled branches. I would browse and fit the most beautiful long dresses with intricate beading and I would laugh to the stories of the old lady who owns the store about the time she used to dress up and wear ball gowns to the most important parties of her time. I would go home with a handful of free antique and vintage dresses, gowns, and bags and drink tea while watching my favourite sitcoms and not realize the time. A dyptique candle will be lit beside my tub full of rose petals where I will indulge. A private masseuse will give my tired body the kneading it deserves and I will sleep dreaming of another wonderful perfect day.

Gloomy Mood

I am enamored with this photo of Nike on Garance. The all black outfit nods to my current favored aesthetic. The loose dark cropped pants is something that would need some getting used to IMO. Overall, the mood is amazing and the backdrop adds to that gloomy feel. I would like to find a vintage-ish bag such as hers though.

Two Occassions and a Men's Clutch

Recently, I was able to attend 2 gatherings wherein I got to exercise my new-found style. I incorporated the items I already had with recent shoe acquisitions in the form of sequined black flats (that is quite a cheap bargain) and opentoe platform slingbacks also in black. In one event, I wore my favourite white balloon sleeve top with lace ruffles in the front which nods to pirate style (I wore this last year I believe when I watched Pirates of the Carribean) together with a long black blouse with low-slung pockets, skinny dark denims, and a vintage belt. Forgive the headless photo, as I'm not ready to reveal my face as well as the blurry camera (this is the only efficient one wherein I can easily store photos to my laptop).

In the other event, I wore a black flimsy draped vest under another black cropped vest and paired them yet again with darm skinny denims, a vintage burgundy-brown belt, and sequined flats. On both occassions I wore them with a burgundy-brown vintage men's clutch.Do you have other suggestions for bottoms that will suit these type of clothes/tops/events? I would like to buy some men style trousers possibly in black or brown as suggested by some street style I have seen on Sartorialist and Garance. I have yet to check Zara and Topshop for their versions. Leggings or dark skinny jeans perhaps? Note that I am leaning more towards a professional look for events as such will lead me to meet current and future clients so minis at these occassions are a no-no.

Quest for Personal Style

I'm not new to the blogsphere as I'd been blogging for quite a good few years. But for some reason, as I am getting a bit older, my style is beginning to shift. No longer am I too attracted to frilly, cutesy, popsicle-colored fashion rather, later I've been gravitating to a more mature style. I clearly credit the chic bloggers Fashion Pariah, Search for Chic, and Shades of Black for turning me on this route. Along the way, I had discovered more chic bloggers that I'd become so fond of. I'd been wanting a more classic and grown-up, but nevertheless edgy style probably for more work options. But as I'd been discovering, I would like it to be a way of life. I would like something permanent. Although, I cannot promise to adhere to the 4-5 piece french wardrobe, which I would so likely want to have, but in a way I shall view this as an inspiration. I am after all beginning to shift style so I have no excuse, but to edit my wardrobe, discard those that will no longer be adhering to my new style (I shall still keep those lovely inspirational pieces of clothing I am attached to though) as well as buying more classic pieces to fit the holes in my wardrobe. When I say classic, I mean pieces of clothing as well as accessories that are very useful to my way of life. These will be the pieces that I will grab whenever I feel the need to rush out, want to be comfortable, and will be foundations for my new uniform. As I've learned from religiously reading the fashion spot, classic need not be a white button down, a trench, and an expensive designer bag. In my wardrobe these classics will be those that will fit my life. Gd knows I cannot acquire an expensive designer bag that I've been not-so-secretly lusting these past few months (okay, I'll spill, it's a Birkin) especially at this point in my life. It can be quite impractical for it's several-digit-figure especially when I can buy another car with that money, but it is something I may consider later on... This blog will serve as a chronicle of my evolving style (and wish lists).

Oh, and no, there are no 2,985 pieces in my wardrobe, I do have a several hundred. It does make for a catchy name, IMO.
